The peaceful Tamar Valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty with its spectacular scenery and wealth of mining history, offers a variety of walks and trails. Kit Hill Country Park and Luckett Nature Reserve both support wildlife including rare orchids and the Fritillary butterfly. The Tamar Valley Discovery Trail passes close by the farm, and from here it is possible to walk to Horsebridge, with its friendly pub, serving good food and real ales, or in the other direction to Gunnislake, St Anns Chapel and the Rifle Volunteer Inn.
Local National Trust properties include Cotehele, Buckland Abbey, Antony House and Lanhydrock House, all within reasonable driving distance.
The River Tamar sports both salmon fishing and canoe expeditions locally. St Mellion Golf and Country Club boasts two 18-hole courses, and nearby Dartmoor National Park offers 368 square miles of moorland and tors, wooded valleys and picturesque villages, with horse riding and outdoor pursuits.
Close to Deer Park Farm is the Tamar Valley Donkey Park, the Victorian mining village at Morwelham Quay and Tree Surfers in Tavistock Woodlands
The world famous Eden Project is less than hour's drive, and only a short distance beyond lie The Lost Gardens of Heligan.
The south coast and its fine sandy beaches are only 30 minutes drive. Nearby the quaint old fishing villages of Looe and Polperro offer shark fishing and sea sailing. Back along the coast, the historic city of Plymouth with its famous Hoe and Barbican has a wide range of shops, entertainment and activities, and can be reached via the Tamar Valley Railway Line, one of the most scenic branch lines in England.
For local amenities, the ancient market towns of Liskeard, Launceston, Callington and Tavistock have a wide range of shops, entertainment and leisure facilities. The Wharf in Tavistock offers cultural and light entertainment, and in summer Sterts theatre provides open air performances as well as arts and crafts workshops.
Further information about visitor attractions and facilities in the Tamar Valley is available from the Tamar Valley Tourism Association, and also from the Tamar Valley Service.
